freedom from anxiety

After a period of relative calm, pressure is beginning to build. We are more than fine; everybody's healthy, happy, well-adjusted. And yet, last night, as three metaphorical eighteen-wheelers—purveyors of Life Stuff—converged in our living room to dump their loads, I felt anxiety's noose begin to tighten. Narrowly escaping a panic attack through prayer, I was able to cast it off. How amazing that Jesus Christ frees us from worry; IF, of course, we want that kind of freedom. God, help me to resolutely choose the peace that comes from trusting you, as all of this new stuff unfolds.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." ~ Philippians 4:6-7

  1. Truly. Yesterday's bible study focused on getting rid of the fear and worry of What If. I live there a lot. The reminder was this: satan has the ability to knock you down, but no power to RUIN you. Knowing God helps us to remember that He is good, even when we receive bad news.

I need that reminder about every hour :)

  2. Boy have I been struggling with this! The noose is tight here too, and I can't even put my finger on exactly what the "problem" is. Thanks for the reminder from His Word, Catherine.
